A look through the adidas archives reveals one of the brand’s classic models, which is now available in new colors.
adidas SL 72, the summer of 1972
The adidas SL 72, which was officially introduced as a “Super Light” running model in the summer of 1972, set off a trend that blurred the lines between performance and leisure. It was also the first shoe to introduce the public to adidas’ new image, a trefoil that linked the company’s history and relationship with the three stripes to its growing interest in textiles, which peaked definitively in the 1970s.
Differences between SL 72 OG and SL 72 RS
The adidas SL 72 will return in 2023 as part of the “We Gave the World an Original, You Gave us a Thousand Back” campaign, in two versions:
- adidas SL 72 OG, the most faithful to the original, features an EVA midsole, nylon, suede, and an unmistakable textured tongue.
- adidas SL 72 RS is based on the original silhouette and style, but with updated shapes that prioritise comfort.
adidas SL 72 in FOOTDISTRICT
The SL 72 is an old friend of FOOTDISTRICT, and it helped us present the new studio of the artists Sabek and Piro. It was our first encounter with a shoe that we knew was historical to the brand and is now returning with the release of new colorways. The two iterations of the iconic SL, the SL 72 RS and the SL 72 OG, are available in essential colorways that can be combined in countless ways.
adidas SL 72 Sabek & Piro Exclusive Pack
Artists Sabek and Piro are well acquainted with the adidas SL 72 sneakers, which were the centrepiece at the opening of their studio in Carabanchel. This event included their creative circle, friends, musicians, gallery owners, photographers, and painters.
The opening marked the beginning of their collaborative proposals, aimed at creating a meeting place for artists. Since then, the adidas SL 72 sneakers have been featured in many of Piro and Sabek’s creations. We wanted them to be a more active part of their world, to serve as a canvas for their artworks.
FOOTDISTRICT and adidas have created an exclusive pack for Sabek and Piro, which includes customised adidas SL 72 sneakers with the artists’ names. This unique presentation and artistic experience provides everything needed to transform a pair of adidas SL 72 sneakers into a work of art. After so long being splattered with paint, it is time for the adidas SL 72 sneakers to take centre stage.
