In an editorial, FOOTDISTRICT outlines the concepts that Yohji Yamamoto and adidas used to create their newest collection, marking a new development in their collaboration.
After two decades, the relationship between adidas and Yohji Yamamoto remains at the forefront of sports design. The development of athletic creation, which initially brought them together at the beginning of the twenty-first century, continues to change in cultural narratives and be contextualised to fit new environments.

The new season’s collection has collegiate themes as its main focus, with Tokyo in mind. Y-3 can find collegiate inspiration in items historically associated with the American academic setting and the various interpretations that were made of them in Japan, as well as in other items that are out of the ordinary. Y-3 Tokyo-branded hats, tees, and jackets that serve as a reminder to wear practical and adaptable clothing. Alongside them, the Qasa, a shape that is now regarded as a classic in Y-3 collections, makes a comeback in vivid hues to coordinate with the season’s shapes. Between work pants and standard American shapes, adidas athletic performance essentials like the Takumi Sen 9 and Boston 11 take their place.

The new Y-3 collection is now available at FOOTDISTRICT.
