Vans x Van Gogh: A Perfect Collaboration
This is kind of the perfect collaboration, in more ways than one. The Vans x Van Gogh release is the meeting of two very complimentary forces with identical goals. Vans have been a cultural staple for a very long time now.
Beyond being a regular and recognized piece of the sneakerhead community, they are something just a tad bit more. There are practically no segments of consumers who are put off or intimidated by the concept of a Vans shoe. This isn’t a brand that requires any in dept sneaker knowledge.
More importantly, they don’t exactly break the bank either. Even with special releases, you’re very unlikely to spend excessive amounts or wait on ridiculously long lines – save for the occasional Supreme drop, of course! Here, we see another special release courtesy of Vans. The age-old sneaker brand works with the Vincent Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam to honor the memory of a master painter.
About Van Gogh:
Van Gogh is such a massive piece of art history that it all but makes sense for an equally historic name in the footwear game to honor him. The goal of this collab for Vans was to help re-express Van Gogh’s most famous works via their canvas uppers as well as an accompanying apparel line. As such, a portion of the proceeds from this release will be going to the Van Gogh Museum.
The two pieces of this drop that stand out to us are the Old Skool and the Slip-On models. The former sports an all-over print of Van Gogh’s “Old Vineyard with Peasant Woman.” Painted originally back in 1890, the thick pencil work eloquently translates from canvas to canvas upper (see what we did there?) and makes for a spectacular iteration. The latter sees pieces of Van Gogh’s communication with his brother printed across sections of the Slip-On.
Look for the entire collection to drop on August 3rd.
