Fall vibes with the new UNDERCOVER x Nike React Element 87 drop
After setting the sneaker world on fire via tempting previews, we finally see the UNDERCOVER x Nike React Element 87 dropping to the general public.
This shoe is going to put up quite the fight for many Top 10 releases lists for 2018. The React Element 87 itself is a stunning achievement for Nike’s running category. Though it doesn’t quite come across as a strict performer, this latest from the brand’s collection features some impressive features in that cause.
The upper’s construction is known more so for its translucent properties than anything else. Beyond that, it’s also fairly utilitarian. The construction features heavy use of synthetic elements. Layered on thinly, this upper’s base build makes for a lightweight feel while also providing a supportive fit.
Along with that, the footbed’s usually corked construction helps to add to the support profile here. All of this aids the wearer’s foot in nestling into the React cushioning, which has been all that the sneaker world could talk about at times.
For this collaborative drop, Jun Takahashi’s UNDERCOVER decks this unforgettable shoe in its very particular stylings. First and foremost, the colours will be what jumps out at people first – and for good reason! Featuring some interesting use of hues such as Beige, Green Mist, and Deep Burgundy, the palette here shows off an imaginative flair.
We also get some smaller alterations to the physical structure of the shoe. Takahashi’s take sees the cork footbed replaced with a more traditionally inclined mesh one. Other than that, this shoe’s features largely remain in the memorable Nike design.
Subtle details really help to fluidly finish this construction off. Examples of this include taping on the exterior, trail style laces, and an exposed ankle collar. It’s a triumph in the deconstructed looks that so many premium sneakers are aiming for these days, and well worth your time!
