The Jordan 3 “Black Cat” returns in 2025, bringing with it a story steeped in history about the connection between Michael Jordan and Tinker Hatfield.
Tinker Hatfield, the designer behind the Jordan line from the III to the XV, always aimed to ensure his creations reflected a direct connection to Michael Jordan. This approach proved pivotal in 1988 when Michael chose to stay with Nike as his initial contract came to an end. Their first collaboration resulted in the Jordan III, a design that incorporated personal elements of Michael: a height that struck a balance between high and low, his image on the tongue, and a minimalist style without oversized logos. For the first time, Michael felt truly represented by his shoe.
More than a decade later, during the development of the Jordan XIII, Hatfield closely studied Michael’s gameplay for fresh inspiration. He observed an elegant and elusive style, almost feline, striking at the perfect moment. This idea led him to incorporate panther- and cat-inspired elements into the shoe’s design, including a green-toned hologram.
When Hatfield presented the concept to Michael, the player revealed a surprising detail: “Black Cat” had been his childhood nickname.
In 2007, Jordan Brand combined this nickname with the first shoe Hatfield designed for him, creating the Jordan III “Black Cat”. This classic, timeless silhouette featured an all-black design that returns in 2025.

Now, the Jordan 3 “Black Cat” is back to honor this unique story, available in sizes for the whole family: adults, kids, and toddlers. An iconic model that pays tribute to the fusion of design, history, and legend.
