A young woman who, since her first collection shortly after graduating from college, has succeeded in making her own distinctive pattern between the flirtatious, the diverse, and manga, who now surprises us with his collaboration with Salomon.
Sandy Liang, Queens NY
Born in Queens, New York City, the same borough that gave rise to artists such as A Tribe Called Quest, Tony Bennet, Nas, Run-DMC, Kareem Abdu-Jabbar, Ramones, and John McEnroe. After school, he went with his father, who ran a restaurant in Chinatown. The grandmothers of Chinatown are among her most important allusions; her own grandmother made an appearance in her debut campaign.

Edward Hopper, Alexander Wang, and Tom Ford
He studied at Parsons School of Design, a design school where designers Tom Ford, Narciso Rodriguez, Isaac Mizrahi or Alexander Wang and artists Edward Hopper, Jasper Johns and Norman Rockwell also studied.
Manga and Anime
His creations, now known as “coquette,” were inspired by his teenage years spent watching manga and anime.

Collaboration as a creative impulse
He has collaborated with brands including Nissan, Salomon, Baggu, and Little Beast, which turned his designs into dog clothing.

The hottest jacket at New York Fashion Week
In 2019, she surprised the world (and herself) with a garment she despised as a child: fleece jackets. Unisex, boxy, with unexpected prints and neon details, The New York Times named it “The hottest jacket at New York Fashion Week”.

Mary Jane
The Mary Jane, a type of shoe that closes with a strap on the instep, is one of its primary references, alongside bows and brocades. The name Mary Jane is derived from the comic book character Buster Brown.
Sandy Liang x Salomon
Her collaboration with Salomon began while she was developing her Spring 2022 collection. They were looking for footwear that the models could wear on the runway, and their stylist, Dean Di Criscio, recommended Salomon. Sandy Liang, who was already familiar with the RX Moc 3.0, accepted the offer. The result is one of the most surprising alliances of recent years.

Her new collaboration with Salomon reinterprets two models from the French brand that may appear to be diametrically opposed to Sandy Liang’s work, using two of her most recognisable elements, ribbons and Mary Janes.

The Salomon x Sandy Liang Speedcross Ribbon and RX Marie-Jeanne will be available at FOOTDISTRICT on July 25.
