Puma joins forces with Palermo FC, a historic club that embodies the rich history of an island through its unusual football colors: pink and black.
Palermo FC is the modern heir to a lineage of teams, originally founded as the Anglo Palermitan Athletic and Football Club in 1900. Throughout its various transformations, it became known by different names, such as Palermo Foot-Ball Club, Unione Sportiva Palermo, and US Palermo. Currently, the club uses the name Palermo FC, which originates from the title adopted in 1907. It was at that time that its distinctive colors—pink and black, unusual in football—were established.

Initially, the team played in blue and red until Joshua Whitaker, a British descendant and local landowner, became involved. Though not particularly interested in football, Whitaker allowed the team to use part of his vineyard lands. He helped transform the club into a symbol of Palermo by suggesting a name change that would emphasize its local identity and distancing it from British influences. The colors were changed upon the advice of Giuseppe Airoldi, a club advisor, who proposed pink to represent victory, symbolized by Rosolio, a rose-based liqueur, and black to signify defeat, linked to Amaro, a dark herbal liqueur.

Puma’s collaboration and the revival of Palermo’s original identity come at a pivotal moment, embracing the club’s cultural heritage. By blending contemporary design with historical references, the Puma x Palermo collection allows fans to proudly wear the iconic pink and black while honoring the team’s roots.

Puma x Palermo FC collaboration celebrates the club’s unique origins and underscores Puma’s commitment to highlighting local cultures through sport, creating a perfect fusion of style, tradition, and passion for football.
