The Off-White x Nike Zoom Fly is here again
This week, we see the Off-White x Nike Zoom Fly releasing in two colorways. This partnership has been wildly successful. Virgil Abloh is on an extended streak of hits. If this drop is any indication, he isn’t slowing down soon.
The Zoom Fly SP was originally released last summer. It came to us via NikeLab with tons to boast. The shoe was designed as part of Nike’s Breaking2 campaign. This was, of course, when the Swoosh tried something big. Eliud Kipchoge was the main endorsee, trying to break the two-hour marathon milestone.
Supplied with some Zoom Fly’s, Kipchoge nearly broke it. He fell short by just seconds. Still, the campaign met its goal. The Zoom Fly model was on everyone’s mind. It’s one of the reasons this shoe finished as one of the most hyped in 2018.
Now, Virgil Abloh takes a turn with them. Rather than racing, he looks to re-think the shoe. Though he isn’t breaking racing records, Abloh specializes in breaking down designs. So far, his work with Nike has involved plenty of deconstruction. That doesn’t change with this latest drop.
The uppers are mostly translucent. This gives them a sort of inside-out look. That approach is something we see regularly with Abloh’s Nike work. Unlike the standard model, this Zoom Fly brings the Swoosh back to the quarter panel. We also see the signature quoted script. Part of the midsole reads “FOAM” in block letters.
The stitch details are one of the subtle markers of an Abloh original. His work with Nike involves stitching that feels deconstructed. Here, the Zoom Fly SP adopts this aspect on the lateral and medial Swoosh branding.
Available in Tulip Pink and Black, the latest from Off-White x Nike is available. Make sure you don’t miss out!
