For the love of football: Off-White x Nike
Was there really any part of you that thought Virgil Abloh was going to resist the urge to release some World Cup heat? Just in case you were none the wiser, the Off-White x Nike “Football, Mon Amour” is here to remind you who the current king of hype is.
The World Cup is only a few days away, and we can’t help but be excited. It seems like the games get more exciting – and more stylish – every time we see them. Now, in 2018, we might be reaching a culmination of sorts by way of Abloh and the Swoosh.
With the upcoming world football tournament in mind, the partners get together for what might be among the most memorable collaborative releases all year. The “Football, Mon Amour” collection releases with a name that strikes an appropriate tone.
The World Cup is that one time every four years when everyone rediscovers their love for the game. As such, the pieces in this collection are a bit romantic in their execution as well.
As usual with Abloh, we see a ton of Black and White pieces, highlighted by an oversized jacket that takes inspiration from sideline parkas. The build is nothing complex – polyester construction to provide a waterproof garment you can throw over just about any outfit.
True to the sport that inspires it, this collection even features t-shirts, hoodies, shorts, track pants and socks. For a bit of a characteristic hypebeast touch, we even get a special Off-White x Nike ball.
This is the sort of drop that, while inevitable, still manages to make its statement. Abloh’s work with Nike is something of a veer away from the increasing popularity of functional design.
His methods have never pretended to be about pragmatism. And yet, he’s managed to cultivate an individual style that sells.
Look out for this collection as it begins to drop on June 14th. Take your chances at our raffle. (Raffle closes June 13th.)
