This year, Nike marks 15 years since the advent of a hugely successful line: the Dunks. The Nike SB Dunks have been captivating sneakerheads’ collective imagination – and wallets – for the last decade and a half. A huge factor in this was the brand’s consistent release of hotly pursued colorways and special editions.
Whether it was through in-house creativity or the result of a collaborative project, several colorways of the Nike SB Dunk have become known as instant classics. Adding to that rich tradition is this latest drop, the SOULLAND x Nike SB Dunk pack. This marks the second occasion this particular partnership put something out.
The inspiration behind this release is the “spirit of Friday nights,” interpreted here as relentless and fun. Dutch menswear brand SOULLAND has been known for something of a unabashed approach to design, and it shows here. The two models, the Dunk High and Low, sport some duel branding and bold features.
The SB Dunk Low comes without its usual lateral extended Swoosh branding. Instead, we see a small check on the shoe’s toe box, a strategy more commonly associated Mercurial soccer models. The SB Dunk High features a more deconstructed build, boasting a suede upper in contrast to the Low’s leather build. Whereas the Low minimizes the Swoosh branding, the High actually piles it on, throwing a small check on the shoe’s usual elongated lateral one.
Considering some of the audacious design choices here – including heel branding – it’s easy to imagine this shoe only adding the Dunk’s deep archives. In celebration of the shoe, Nike has featured some of the most hyped releases to date. It’s no stretch to assume a Nike x SOULLAND collab will be at the center of future celebrations as well.
Available this weekend, don’t sleep on these definite bangers!
