The Nike x ACRONYM Presto Mid is one step ahead
Finally getting around to the latest from this innovative collaboration, we take a look at the Nike x ACRONYM Presto Mid. Errolson Hugh has been contributing in a huge way to the fashion game for quite some time. His ACRONYM label regularly finds itself among the leaders in utilitarian design.
The wears come equipped with all sorts of protective and supportive features. Beyond that, they also boast distinctive aesthetics, streamlining forms and fabrics down to the bare bones of function. Nike had seen that for years before finally collaborating with Hugh. The result became one of the short-listed considerations for Shoe of the Year when it dropped.
The Air Presto was reimagined at this point, repurposed to look more heavy-duty. Now, Nike is back at it, bringing back this gem of a collaborative design in an array of colours.
Each of these three iterations comes seeped in the utilitarian styling of ACRONYM. The upper is almost entirely in a durable synthetic material. The heel is an exception as it sports a leather build to make it a supportive counter. Additionally, the recognizable dual entry zip system from the last release returns and is executed beautifully.
Utility meets innovation
A 3D mesh collar extends down to just before the shoe’s vamp, really adding some visual complexity here. For an added element of support and lockdown, the Presto’s standard midfoot caging provides plenty in the way of solid design.
The zip system and full coverage lacing come together nicely as yet another remarkable example of pragmatic design. Every element of this shoe seems to stand for function before form.
Each of these colorways is pretty distinctive on its own merits. A multicoloured pair presents the loudest iteration of this release. Mixing in hues of Blue, Pink, and Yellow, this bold look stands out emphatically. Next up is a slightly more muted look, comprised of Volt Yellow hints as well as signature ACRONYM patterns throughout.
Lastly, for those of you who are looking for a more minimalist look, a mostly tonal Black/ Grey iteration. The variety of colourways here fits in with the pattern of releases we’ve seen from this collaboration. The combination of somber iterations along with the more boisterous looks is just more of this pair’s heat.
As you might have expected, this latest addition to the Nike x ACRONYM catalog is a masterclass in the revolutionary design of the Presto as well the signature stylings of Errolson Hugh.
