Nike Space Hippie shows that a change of mindset in the industry is indeed possible. The collection of sneakers is inspired by life on Mars, where materials are scarce, and there is no resupply mission.

The Space Hippie, created in a sustainable way from the first phase, begins with the design of the silhouette and the manufacture of the model, and it ends with the packaging. They are made from remains of materials discarded in the manufacturing process of other shoes, fabrics, and other waste found scattered throughout the factories. In other words; or, as they call it, “space junk.”

Move to zero
Firstly, each shoe has a minimum of 50% recycled materials in its composition. There are four styles, each with a unique fit option: Flyease, slip-on or lace-up. Three of its models present the Vast Gray/Hyper Crimson color palette, combining salmon details on a gray upper and a turquoise blue midsole. The fourth model, the Nike Space Hippie 4, sports a different color range.

These sneakers have Space Waste Yarn fibers and Flyknit yarns, made with 85-90% recycled materials. To clarify, we are talking about waste as diverse as pieces of fabric from T-shirts or used plastic bottles. The Crater Foam texture (another nod to outer space) features approximately 12% Nike Grind rubber, mixed with foam materials. So the result is a sustainable and light pair of eye-catching and original sneakers, providing a perfect performance every day.

Lastly, the box is not far behind in this eco-friendly commitment. Space Hippie comes in a box made from repurposed material. The exterior print, featuring Nike badges and this collection, is made with eco-friendly, plant-based ink.
