Nike Air Max 1/97 Sean Wotherspoon
The new winner of the fan vote, the Nike Air Max 1/97 Sean Wotherspoon, is here. One of the most coveted shoes of the season is really unique, to say the least.
To be perfectly honest, Nike has been something less than perfect for the last few years. But, we only say that so we can reasonably acknowledge one of its greatest decisions: giving the fans power to decide.
Fans of the legendary Air Max line have been given opportunities to be part of the brand’s yearly celebrations of the shoe, picking out the next great colorway from a unique selection. Last year, that resulted in a historically hyped drop via the atmos crew.
Keeping on that fan-first narrative, Nike sees this shoe take its form thanks to the vision of noted collector Sean Wotherspoon. He’s well known around the Air Max community as an avid hunter of vintage Air Max drops and is one of the faces of a retro revival in the industry. Fittingly, the design Wotherspoon proposes shows his affinity with older stylings. 
Air Max Fusion:
Combining the tooling of two different Air Max models, this drop sees a color scheme that shouts out the 80s and 90s. The upper’s nostalgic take on corduroy sports a combination of Grey, Blue, Green, and Pink via the AM 97’s wavy upper.
A sole swap fits this shoe’s midsole in the AM 1’s design. Nike’s future is pretty easy to see via releases such as this. We’ve already seen the brand equip some other classic runners with features such as Vapor cushioning.
That trend doesn’t seem to be going away anytime soon, which is in no way a problem, The Swoosh has some huge hits from the past that only get better with some new tech – just as long as the visuals and vibes remain.
