Nike’s Air Fear of God 1 and Air Shoot Around return in “Black” and “Light Bone”
Watch out Virgil Abloh – there’s a new designer making waves at Nike! Having honed his skills through a multitude of Vans collaborations and his own line of footwear, Fear of God founder Jerry Lorenzo recently turned his attention to the Swoosh and his debut efforts have been nothing short of stunning.
Released late in 2018, Lorenzo’s take on the Air Skylon 2 took the vintage gem into uncharted territory, replacing its trademark vibrancy with a decidedly more understated aesthetic. While his take on the classic runner was palatable – and representative of Lorenzo’s signature minimalist aesthetics – it is his work in conjunction with acclaimed senior Nike footwear design Leo Chang that is truly worthy of the spotlight.
In an unusual and wholly unexpected move, Lorenzo and Chang merged the worlds of streetwear and performance footwear, unleashing two basketball-inspired designs that are unlike anything to hit the hardwood in the past.

The Nike Air Shoot Around features telltale Swoosh branding, ankle-hugging collar straps and an impressive wedge of double-stacked visible Zoom Air cushioning in the heel, but any resemblance to existing court designs ends there. True to the teachings of Marie Kondo, the Air Shoot Around champions streamlined aesthetics, boasting an uncluttered upper that is free of superfluous overlays and patterning. The sleek design instead draws attention to the model’s meticulous material composition, which makes use of Nike’s most premium full-grain leathers and textiles. Intended for pregame warm-ups, the Air Shoot Around implements a novel toggle-and-zip system to instantly deliver the perfect fit.
Joining the Air Shoot Around is Lorenzo’s flagship design: the Air Fear of God 1. Much like the Air Shoot Around, the Air Fear of God 1 favours simplicity, flawlessly executed. The imposing high-top embraces an equally svelte silhouette with the same cutting-edge dual Zoom Air unit, but throws a touch of heritage into the mix by way of a Huarache Light-inspired geometric TPU cage that is intended to offer full support from the street to the court.
Both the Air Shoot Around and Air Fear of God 1 are finished off with intricate Fear of God branding and arrive encased inside luxurious collaborative packaging.
