In yet another partnered release, the John Elliott x Nike LeBron Icon QS takes us back a bit. Famed menswear designer John Elliott puts his very distinctive touches on a legacy of LeBron sneakers and manages to bring about something new.
First and foremost, it’s worth knowing that John Elliott is no rookie in the sneaker game. The famed designer and brand founder has focused his talents on the world of menswear. Yet, he has always had a passion for footwear and sneaker design.
He was nine years old when he first started sending his own ideas for sneakers to the Swoosh themselves. Though they returned his sketches with gentle refusals, this was just one area of his emphasis on good design.
John Elliott’s time in the fashion industry has helped to hone in his vision. What’s more, we see that fine-tuning come to life here in the designer’s interpretation of LeBron’s signature line.
The shoe is dressed in a tonal White and Black combination. The color choice itself isn’t complicated, but the execution is where things get special. The base of the upper is in a translucent construction. If that wasn’t enough, we see plenty of lines cutting through the visuals here in a diagonal pattern.
The aesthetics are very indicative of Elliott’s tastes. Some elements, however, simply reflect the man’s fandom. Particularly worthy of note is the chunky midsole underfoot. This full-length use of Max Air cushion is reminiscent of the LeBron 8, Elliott’s favorite model in the series.
The stylistic re-do of this iconic performer is also a look into where LeBron is in terms of his legacy both on and off the court. To take a reflective look back – this is almost like a high fashion retro – at his line is a bit surprising considering the man doesn’t look near retirement from basketball.
