John Elliott’s SS20 collection invites us to explore the magical tropical forest, featuring water-resistant textiles and faded finishes. A fearless proposal inspired by the adventures the designer lived in Costa Rica’s jungle.

John Elliott’s Spring/Summer 2020 collection emanates from taking inspiration from Costa Rica’s particular geographical conditions. Comfort is one of the fundamental principles in these garment’s manufacture, including water-resistant technologies materialized on French terry fabric. The prints, featuring faded, washed-out and tie-dye techniques, provide the brand with that urban and casual touch. The designer himself relates the story about adventure and connection with nature behind this collection.
Exploring the Costa Rica’s jungle

“Two years ago I spent a week in Costa Rica for the first time. It rained every day. I love the rain, I love the energy it provides. We had no cell service, no WiFi, just jungle, ATV’s and adventure. On my birthday my wife and I decided to head out.

We asked the bartender at the spot we had been frequenting for a suggestion. His response became the premise for the majority of this season… “Do you want to see people?” The answer was obvious. NO.

The next morning we headed out into the jungle in a light rain. Predictably we got lost; the rain turned into a downpour. We eventually found a waterfall as the daylight was dwindling. Along the way we crossed rivers, fought, cried laughing, played with monkeys, swam in the ocean, lost a camera, and almost didn’t make it back.

The smells, the anxiety, joy, love, curiosity, fear, and mosquito bites of that 14 hour adventure are etched into my memory, for all of the right reasons.

At some point I knew I was going to try to tap into that day. It’s like a small mosquito bite in my brain and it feels good to scratch.”
