New Balance revisits its archive to launch a silhouette that reinterprets 90s innovation through a futuristic lens. The new ABZORB 2000 places a historic technology at the center of a contemporary design that champions both comfort and visual impact.

ABZORB: A Cushioning System That Changed the Game
Developed in 1993 for running footwear, ABZORB technology marked a turning point in athletic performance. Its unique formula—a blend of foam, Isoprene rubber, and proprietary components like Dupont™ Engage®—achieved what few materials can: lightweight comfort without compromising durability or shock absorption.
Unlike standard EVA foams, ABZORB retains its shape and cushioning properties even after extended use, dispersing impact from the very first contact with the ground. Its uniform cell structure and resistance to compression quickly made it a staple in running footwear, and later, in lifestyle silhouettes as well.

ABZORB 2000: Making Technology Visible
The New Balance ABZORB 2000 was unveiled in April at Milan Design Week as a bold design experiment. Built using 3D modeling tools, it features a highly detailed articulated sole with complex curves. The result is a sneaker that places technology on full display.
The ABZORB 2000 revives a key element of early 2000s running classics and transforms it into the focal point of a renewed aesthetic. Full-length ABZORB cushioning combined with ABZORB SBS pods delivers a smooth, supported stride.

The Forward-Looking Aesthetic of the New Balance 2000
Its cutting-edge design extends to the upper, where minimalist lines and thoughtful details offer a new perspective on visible tech.
A mesh upper with printed overlays and a printed ‘N’ logo gives it a technical character while maintaining visual clarity. This is enhanced by a sculpted midsole, a segmented outsole with a Stability Web shank for added support, and reflective accents that complete its futuristic feel.

For New Balance, the challenge with this model was finding the right balance between heritage and innovation. With the ABZORB 2000, they’ve succeeded—honoring the brand’s performance legacy while reimagining how we walk through the present.
