Built Strong: Carhartt WIP x Converse One Star
The Carhartt WIP x Converse One Star brings together two brands that know a thing or two about form meets function. Carhartt’s legacy is that of a mainstay to most fashion heads. In fact, it’s one of those rare household names whose popularity goes beyond those who follow fashion.
Carhartt starts its run as an elite provider for manual laborers in the United States. Specifically, the brand begins its story back in 1889 in Dearborn, Michigan. The clothing and gear they designed were simply meant to provide comfort and durability to people who worked long and hard hours. The environments these were designed to withstand included factories and railways.
Converse comes at fashion from a slightly different standpoint. The modern take on this brand involves a long history in basketball shoes. The Chuck Taylor model, for example, was designed specifically to be used on the basketball courts. Nonetheless, Converse – like Carhartt – starts its story by providing wears that would last the long hours of hard labour.
Knowing this about them, these two brands make for appropriate partners for this specific release. The One Star is the subject of this special drop, featuring a host of subtle but significant upgrades to the classic model.
The upper is constructed from a layer of Cordura fabric. This base material is all about protection, providing a resistance to abrasion as well as an impressive durability profile.
Towards the heel, we see some more of the subtle design notes of this collaborative drop. The military inspiration on this release comes via notes such as the hang tag on this back end of the shoe. We also see webbing along this section that is reminiscent of cross-strap bandoliers.
The One Star features here in three tonal looks of White, Black, and Olive. This only further emphasizes the military inspiration of this release.
