The partnership between adidas and Avavav returns as a new proposal for design: a collaboration where sneakers become sculptures and irreverence is the only rule.
Fashion is a game of expectations, and few collaborations have pushed the limits of what’s acceptable with as much delight as the third installment of adidas Originals x Avavav. Under the vision of Beate Skonare Karlsson, this collection forgets traditional tributes to archival silhouettes and instead transforms into playful subversion. German precision taken to the brink of distortion, refinement, and absurdity. The result: each piece becomes a masterclass in contrast.
Deconstructing iconography
Footwear is the protagonist of this design experiment. Classic sneaker shapes are exaggerated into sculptural forms, blending irony with technical elegance.

At the center of this controlled chaos is the adidas Originals x Avavav Modified Superstar, reduced and sculpted from a single piece of vacuum-molded leather. The Three Stripes are no longer applied—they’re embossed directly into the surface. With washed-down colors that prioritize material over branding, this model nods to distortion as an art form.
The Moonrubber Megaride also returns, more dramatic than ever. Its oversized sole, reflective accents, and reconfigured paneling function as a sculpture in motion.

This adidas Originals collection steps away from the seriousness of high-performance design. The campaign by Hungarian photographer Szilveszter Mako captures this tension: models posed stiffly against painted backdrops, letting the shoes become the only playful element in the frame.

Apparel follows the same contradictory proportions. Track tops play with trompe-l’œil, imitating painted fabrics, while puffers inflate into cartoon-like volumes. Accessories become geometric extensions of the footwear—exaggerated, sculptural, and humorous.

This adidas Originals x Avavav collection invites us to treat fashion—and archives—not as sacred objects, but as tools for enjoyment. A reminder to step away from unnecessary solemnity and lean into the joy of distortion.
