Autry returns to its roots with Reelwind, a running model inspired by its 1980s silhouettes.
The Autry renaissance
Autry’s current renaissance began with recapturing the inspiration of 1980s tennis, a time and place where the brand achieved some of its greatest successes. Autry was officially founded in 1982, but it grew out of the experience of Autry Rubber Company, a family-owned business that Jim Autry transformed into a threat to the big brands of the time. The first warning came in tennis.

Three models, CLC, Princess, and Prince, promised a return of energy on the tennis court thanks to his patented ActionSorb system, prompting Tennis Magazine to call the Autry “superbly designed shoes.” But it was not just on the tennis courts that Autry excelled; he also created aerobic models, designed an official shoe for the Statue of Liberty (aptly named Liberty), and, of course, had his triumphant entry into the trend of the moment, running.
Autry, running in the 80s
In the midst of the running boom, Autry introduced the Jetstreamers line, which consisted of four models that shocked everyone with their impressive technological advancements and earned a perfect five stars in the Runner’s World tests. Its innovations included an adjustable system that fit all widths, which allowed for unprecedented customisation at the time; an incredibly durable outsole; Natural Flex, an invention by Autry to increase flexibility; an inventive interchangeable inner arch; and women’s models that were “scientifically developed to fit the feminine foot.”

Autry Reelwind
Autry knew how to make running shoes. And it still does. That is why the Autry Reelwind, the brand’s new silhouette, draws inspiration from the dynamism of its ’80s models and vintage aesthetics while updating it with ultra-lightweight materials. A lightwight midsole with the A, arrow, and stars, a durable outsole for traction on various surfaces, and a suede and nylon mix for style and functionality.
The dynamism and lightness of a high-performance shoe combined with the spirit of the 1980s. The Autry Reelwind is a versatile silhouette that can be worn in a variety of ways, from sporty and technical to refined. And it is now available in FOOTDISTRICT.
