Modern Quality: ASICS GEL-Quantum Infinity Black/ Shocking Orange
The ASICS GEL-Quantum Infinity Black/ Shocking Orange is a great example of the brand’s quality. The same emphasis on comfort returns on a more aggressive look.
The GEL-Quantum Infinity brings some familiar features. The upper is in a one-piece design but sports a traditional ankle collar. The tongue is thin and lightweight. Along with flowing lines throughout, this gives the shoe a versatile look.
This wouldn’t be an ASICS model if we didn’t talk about the cushion. Underfoot, a layer of that iconic GEL layer sits prominently. By now, we all know how effective this setup is. The engineered GEL absorbs impact while allowing maximum flexibility. Rounding off the features are an inner last and sockliner. Both are in an Ortholite build and only add to the comfort.
There are also plenty of visuals here. ASICS uses Japanese Katakana script on this shoe’s design. On the tongue, we see a translation of “Gel” and the heel says “Infinity.” Meanwhile, the cushion is encased in its own bold looks. The Shocking Orange is in a gradient hue on the outsole. The visuals there are inspired by rain and water droplets.
It’s a shame that ASICS shoes are so consistently underrated. The brand has been innovating the runners game for a long time. Since their inception, they’ve contributed a number of critical advances. Fans still swear by GEL cushioning – and for good reason!
Fortunately, there’s some change coming. Sneakerheads are increasingly looking to the past for inspiration. As this happens, ASICS will no doubt come up in discussions more often. We’ve already seen some impressive debuts from the brand’s design archives.
While we celebrate the OGs, it’s easy to forget that ASICS is still here. It isn’t a bygone relic of the past. On the contrary, they’re still very much alive and kicking. Judging by the GEL-Quantum Infinity, it seems they’re not going away anytime soon.
