Rewriting the past with the Air Jordan Future Premium Infrared
The Air Jordan Future Premium Infrared holds a bit of a complicated place in the brand’s history. Its adoption of this iconic colorway is, in fact, yet another hint at this.
The Future originally released back in 2014 to admittedly muted fanfare. The shoe itself has a striking visual appeal. Its look is brought together via the inspirations of a futuristic upper and a retro bottom – that Air Jordan 11 outsole and midsole are unmistakable.
Even the colorways worked well with this shoe. It takes on tonal looks just as competently as more boisterous schemes. The upper’s woven aesthetic has a lot to do with that. The Inneva-like look is conducive to a wide array of colorways, making this as versatile a shoe as you can get.
And yet… the Jordan Brand world is a hard place to earn your stripes. The Jordan Future’s attempts to bring back some retro details have polarized some in the sneaker community. In fact, we’ve seen everything from “this is PERFECT” to “UGH, no thank you!”
But, to be fair to the Future, it’s an early attempt at the sole-swapping craze that’s going through Nike HQ at the moment. Unlike the VaporMax Frankensteins, we’re seeing this year, the Future switched it up by bringing back a retro feature to its sole.
Here, we see it in a classic Infrared scheme. It’s a direct shoutout to a notorious colorway on models such as the Air Jordan 11 and 13. The woven upper is decked out in a tonal Black, followed by accents of Infrared, in one of the more straightforward visuals you’ll see all year.
Sure, this isn’t the shoe His Airness was killing people in during his many playoff runs. But, it’s a look that is certainly worth your time!
