When the Air Jordan 13 was first released, back in 1997, the rollout was something less than speedy. Originally, it was dropped in seven colorways, two of which were low-top iterations. Dropping in 1998, right after the wildly popular “Black Toe” model is the White/ True Red Air Jordan 13.
It doesn’t much closer to OG than this. This colorway is one of the few 13’s that doesn’t really have any official nickname. But, it sure does come with some history. The 1998 NBA season ended on the highest of notes for his Airness. Jordan would go on to beat the Utah Jazz to earn the Bulls’ sixth NBA title, and added to our recollection yet another iconic MJ Finals moment. Though he was wearing the BRED iteration at the time, one of the quirkier things about this True Red piece is that some of the Utah Jazz players actually were wearing them as Jordan hit consecutive big shots to end the series.
The sneaker itself is a marvel for its time. Stitched lateral patches of leather bore semi-perforated details, giving the AJ 13 its distinctive look. Another key aesthetic feature is the shoe’s midsole, styled by Tinker himself to resemble a panther’s paw.
It’s a performance model that was ahead of its time. But, for those of us that couldn’t witness its significance, it’s also a great finisher to your outfit. Find it now at our Jordan store.
