“Be Like Mike”
Just when you expect things to slow down with the end of the year approaching, Jordan Brand gets in full speed mode. With the “Be Like Mike” celebrations, serving as the motto, Jordan brand releases three new flavors of the Air Jordan 1 Retro, inspired by the famous sports drink, Gatorade.
With one of the most profitable partnerships in history, between an athlete and a brand, the relation between Michael Jordan and Gatorade began in the summer of 1991, the year of MJ’s first championship win. On that exact summer, Gatorade launched the famous “Be Like Mike” commercial, Jordan’s popularity was skyrocketing and the slogan became globally popular and played a major in Gatorade’s continuing success, and thirty years later the message is still as inspiring.
The collection consists on three electric colorways, Blue Lagoon, Orange Peel and Cyber Lime and features full leather uppers seated upon a matching tonal translucent sole unit. The signature orange lightning bolt emblem is placed on the lateral heel panel, and you can see more of the beverage branding throughout the insoles and outsoles.
