Straight to California: adidas x Oyster Holdings Collection
The adidas x Oyster Holdings Collection released earlier this year as one of the more understated drops of 2018. It didn’t come with a whole lot in the way of a hype storm, but it should have. This collection brings a historic sportswear brand together with one that is customer first.
We all know adidas’s reputation by now. If you take away the glitz and glam they’ve taken on lately – see Kanye, Harden, etc. – the brand has historically been about keeping to a viewpoint of performance and quality. As for Oyster Holdings, they’re more than just another addition to the Three Stripes catalog of collaborators.
This California-based brand has been in the clothing game long enough to know where their heads are at. Consequently, there’s no fussing around about their motivation. Oyster Holdings has a phrase that has become synonymous with their brand: “Traveling is a sport.”
That ethos really comes through in just about everything they release, with the designers even going as far as to “[push] the limits of the sweatsuit..” In short, they’re all about comfortable, premium, and durable garments.
Their latest work with adidas doesn’t slow down on this goal at all. The adidas crewneck, hoodies, and tracksuits are the targets of the Cali company’s premium construction. Oyster Holdings have a habit of going with luxurious Japanese French Terry, which they add to the aforementioned garments. There’s also the addition of Italian-made Lampo zippers in a Metallic Gold.
This results in a new vision of these classic adidas pieces. There’s some footwear in the collection as well, focusing in on the Handball Top and 350 models. Each of these comes with a pastel color palette as well an upgrade in materials. Rich cuts of suede appear on both of these uppers while the Handball Top also benefits from overlays of leather.
It’s another gem of a release from adidas, showing off their eclectic inspirations.
