More Boost goodness with the adidas Ultra Boost 19
adidas is kicking off the New Year in a big way with the Ultra Boost 19. It’s the same old design philosophy here. A Primeknit upper wraps around your foot while every step feels the cushiness of a Boost midsole. Underneath all of that is the same Continental rubber outsole we know and love.
A stark difference here is the heel counter. Instead of the TPU piece we’re used to, adidas throws on a 3-D Fitcounter. In a more subtle move, the knit upper sees some change as well. The weaving pattern takes on a horizontal direction, making these visually interesting.
Now, the shoe technically released back on December 18th. However, those first pairs were gone within what felt like seconds. That, as adidas fans will tell you, is something of a surprise.
The Ultra Boost had spent a relatively short time over two years ago as a must-cop symbol of hype nation. More recently, it’s been easier to find in just about every colorway – save for drops like the OG of course!
Now, the Ultra Boost 19 was dropped in some limited numbers. In the nature of the footwear hype machine, that could very well have sparked the sell-outs. Supply and demand is a fundamental part of the sneaker game, after all.
Then again, it could just as well be because of the shoe itself. Like previous renditions before it, the 2019 version doesn’t bring too many new features to the table. And yet, it stakes it’s own position from a visual standpoint. For example, that heel counter is going to be one to watch this year.
A bright Red looks interesting at worst here. It’s tempting to imagine what other colorways will be incorporating on that end of the shoe. We could be looking at a return of the Ultra Boost’s original hype train!
