Celebrate football with the adidas Sobakov
Switching their flow up just a little bit, the adidas Sobakov is the German brand’s first in what looks to be a new standard. adidas seems to have just been waiting for the right time to drop these bad boys.
As World Cup fever still lingers in the air, this football (or soccer, as some of you like to call it) -inspired gem drops on July 21st – an appropriate decision, for a few reasons…
Perhaps the most obvious of these is the fact that this is very much a shoutout to classic football boots. Of course, there are some differences. For example: where older football cleats would opt for more rugged leathers or durable synthetics, the construction on this model opts for a woven style.
Nonetheless, it’s a relatively low-riding shoe with a sharp silhouette. In fact, the shape itself is a response to a summer trend in the footwear industry. It’s sleek and stealthy, an almost direct contradiction to the pomp and circumstance of this bulk-crazed year.
We even get some subtle Yeezy vibes throughout this design. For instance, the Gum midsole here extends out to wrap around the heel in a bulb of sorts – much like the 350 Boost. The pull tab on this one-piece upper is also similar to the low-cut Yeezy design.
And yet, the football influences continue. Though the upper here is in a knit build, we see horizontal stitching along the toe-box. Additionally, the most prominent branding note here comes in the form of some alternative lateral Three Stripes. Each of these aspects is an ode to the storied Predator series of football boots.
From a visual standpoint, the most captivating element might well be this shoe’s midsole. It’s worth noting that comparing this to the Kamanda – another recent drop by adidas – the midsole seems relatively tame. Still, the thick wavy design here looks like it may even work well from a functional perspective.
If that’s not enough of the football inspiration, consider the color scheme. The combination of Black on the base, White lateral branding, and a Gum midsole is no coincidence. This is the recognizable look of the iconic adidas Samba.
Available July 21st, make sure you don’t sleep on these future classics!
