Straight from the 90s: adidas Falcon W
The adidas Falcon is another piece of evidence showing that bulky footwear isn’t going anywhere any time soon. This model is straight out of the 90s. The silhouette itself is a masterclass in the bulky sneaker design that was all the rage then and is going through a renaissance now.
The uppers here are very indicative of the traditional design elements in 90s runners. Mesh serves as the Falcon’s breathable base layer. On top of this sit some suede overlays to make for a touch of quality and added texture. We also get sections of tumbled leather, exemplified by the lacing eye-stays.
The shoe’s comfort profile is also quite impressive. While mesh inner linings are a standard for runners for the last few decades, there’s more. The adidas Falcon also comes with the brand’s Torsion system to make for a stable ride. Underfoot, each step is cushioned with the impact protection of the brand’s EVA tech.
The colorways featured here provide a little something for every taste. The Grey pair sports different interpretations of that color – they’re labeled as Grey One, Grey Two, and Grey Five. The next pair is highlighted by an adoption of Clear Mint on the mesh base, accented by a Navy hue on the suede overlays. Underneath both of these colorways is an outsole with expressive sections of Mint, Red, and Yellow.
The last featured colorway here is one we can all get into. A more neutral offering, the upper on this Falcon is in a Core Black. That same tonal scheme dresses the entirety of the shoe’s base and overlays sections. The midsole is the only large contrast, giving us a chunk of White. Other than that, the branding near the eye-stays also features in a more subtle contrasting hue.
The adidas Falcon is a good place from which to start your journey into the world of bulky footwear. Cop yours while you still can!
