The Three Stripes has a real bad (read “incredibly good” habit). Every so often (read “almost literally every other month”), the brand drops a sneaker that turns out to be an indisputable classic. With their past-meets-future focus, adidas Originals is constantly churning out models that turn into unquestioned classics for years to come. Pharrell Williams, for his part, seems to have caught onto this strategy.
The new Tennis Hu model, a special drop courtesy of adidas’s bountiful partnership with the aforementioned Williams, is no doubt looking for a permanent spot on everyone’s list of favorite sneakers. In the same vein as models such as the Stan Smith or Superstar, we see a simple build that includes a one-piece mesh upper. Of course, this wouldn’t be a modern adidas drop without the inclusion of a sharp silhouette and that’s exactly what we see with this sneaker.
The minimalism up top continues towards the midsole, which goes without the chunky BOOST and opts instead for a standard EVA midsole. This goes without sacrificing aesthetics, as each colorway of this shoe comes with its interpretation of the midsole. From perforations to graphic motifs, it’s all there. With a number of crisp colorways releasing this August, and a good number of future classics already available, adidas may have just done it again.
