Its most legendary garment, the G9 Harrington jacket, has been an authentic cult piece for more than 80 years.

Baracuta has its origin in Manchester, a city known at the time by the nickname Cottonpolis. Its own name indicates it: the city was the world center of textile production, due, among other things, to an extremely rainy and humid climate, factors conducive to this crop.

The John and Isaac Miller brothers saw the opportunity clear and began operating in the area as manufacturers of raincoats for other brands (among them, Burberry) with their new company, Baracuta. Its path continued until becoming an independent brand.

In 1937, Baracuta presented the classic Harrington in its G9 iteration as a coat for golfers. John and Isaac Miller were members of the local golf club, so they knew the players’ needs well. The “swing jacket,” as it was popularly known in Japan, had to be a simple and elegant garment that offered freedom of movement to hit the ball. A few months later, Fraser tartan was added to the lining of the garment inside, prior permission granted from Lord Lovat of the Fraser clan.

Meanwhile, in the United States, the McGregor company presented a design very similar to the Harrington. It is the Drizzler, a jacket that was born in 1947 to become the sister, also cult, of the classic G9. It is the Drizzler jacket that James Dean wears in ‘Rebel without a cause’, and it is the G9 that Elvis Presley exhibits in ‘King Creole’. Baracuta is also the jacket that Steve McQueen wears in Life magazine in 1963, specifically the Stone, although years later the actor would turn to the brand again, reaffirming himself as a staunch follower. By this time, the brand had already become a legend and its jackets were true cult objects.

Over the years, different subcultures have fallen in love with it. Not just movie stars, but also menswear experts, rock legends, gang members, and slum youth. No one would tell at first glance, but they all have a clear common denominator. All of them have been proudly wrapped in the Harrington’s signature tartan inner print. Other stars who have worn the garment in the past are Arnold Palmer, Gregory Peck, Frank Sinatra, Chet Baker, Eric Clapton, or Liam Gallagher, among many others. But we don’t have to go back that far. It is also in the wardrobes of Tom Hardy, Daniel Craig, or Jason Statham.

Baracuta has become an aesthetic hallmark for a rich and diverse British subculture. The brand has already proven to be immortal and to have a presence in all parts of the world, gaining an indisputable gap between the sources of inspiration and the references of the streetwear scene.

Buy now the latest from Baracuta.

Created in the 1930s in Manchester, the Baracuta brand has built a particular imaginary in which London style, the most polished quality, and timeless classism merge in the same

[65

4,7,5,6,8
0":"post-7003","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-editorials
["GET
