Designer and founder Samuel Ross has a very particular vision here. Nike’s Vomero model is a blast from the past. This shoe comes back to us all the way from 2010. Back then, running shoes were straightforward. All of the tech and innovation was on the exterior.

This was a big factor in Nike’s marketing strategy at this point. Much like the Air Max bubbles, you could see the tech you were buying into. The Vomero was designed in this way as well. The spokes, cushion, and other elements were quite showy.

There was no mystery about what you were getting. For this special release, Samuel Ross wanted to change that. Sure, there’s a clear practicality to having everything on the outside. It’s a great selling point. But, Ross wanted to break things down a bit.

For this special edition of the Vomero, all the tech was stripped down. Now, it’s important to note that this isn’t a deconstruction. A-COLD-WALL* had done that sort of work on the Air Force 1. Instead, this version of the Vomero takes away certain PU and UV layers.

The point of this was to show some of the shoe’s aging properties. These extra layers were a standard back in 2010. They’re largely a standard in modern design as well. Generally, they keep a shoe from aging and turning different colors. Ross wants the opposite. He wants to make sure that this shoe can age like a human.

The whole idea fits in well with his brand. Their latest in-house collection is called HUMAN. FORM. STRUCTURE. It keys in on the humanity of aging and development. Allowing the Vomero to more quickly age and discolor falls in line with this ethos.

The A-COLD-WALL* x Nike Zoom Vomero +5 is only unique The A-COLD-WALL* X Nike Zoom Vomero +5 is part of a special capsule.
