The Kendrick Lamar x Nike Cortez Basic Slip<\/strong> returns in yet another rendition of the rapper’s signature Swoosh model. After what felt like a brief stint with Reebok, the Top Dawg rapper and producer is back with more heat from his Nike collection<\/strong><\/a>. Since joining up with the Swoosh, Lamar has been coinciding releases with special events.<\/p>\n

The Kung Fu Kenny iteration of the Cortez Slip released alongside the rapper’s first tour following the release of his latest studio album, DAMN. Following that up with only more acclaim and more footwear, Lamar continues his healthy relationship with the sneaker mega brand. This time, the Cortez Basic Slip returns in a White and Wolf Grey combination. The overwhelming majority of the style cues from past iterations can be seen here.<\/p>\n

For one thing, some of the quirky design subtleties persist. The inner lining still sports the familiar print of “Preferably Wear with Shorts and Tall Socks” which is a deliberate shoutout to Lamar’s home state. This particular style is reminiscent of the skater-centric stylings of California sneakerheads, often mixing extended socks and shorts with some impressive footwear.<\/p>\n

The rest of the shoe comes across as an Abloh-esque turn of this classic piece of Nike design. The Cortez<\/strong><\/a> sees its lacing bed stripped away completely in favor of something new. The puffed up shroud of a tongue that takes the place of said lacing comes together with an adjustable clasp for some customization in terms of fit and lockdown.<\/p>\n

Other details include slivers of Orange on this shoe’s mostly White nylon base upper. Thanks to this rather minimalist construction, the shoe is well placed in the budget-friendly category. This also makes the Kendrick Lamar x Nike heat very accessible to most sneakerheads.<\/p>\n
