For yet another year in the series, the Nike BETRUE Collection 2018<\/strong> sees some stand-out Swoosh models decked out in the signature color scheme. For quite some time now, Nike has been dropping the BETRUE collection as part of their efforts in support of the LGBTQ community.<\/p>\n The colorways have often been a play on the iconic rainbow theme, but they’ve represented more in some more subtle ways. In this collection, there are a few thematic elements that take the focus.<\/p>\n The collection is comprised of the Air VaporMax<\/strong><\/a> Plus, the Zoom Fly SP, and the Epic React Flyknit. We also see a bold take on the Air Max 270.<\/p>\n The colorway on each of these shoes sports a play on the above-mentioned rainbow theme, with an added emphasis on Lavender. Though effectively just a mix of light Blue<\/a> and Pink shades<\/a>, the color holds historical significance.<\/p>\n Long before the adoption of the Rainbow spectrum in the LGBTQ community, Lavender was a kind of “silent language” among community members who didn’t quite feel safe in the wider public. It was also a color that symbolically minimized the importance of gender and restrictive sexuality.<\/p>\n The use of this color is fluid and effective in this collection. It also coincides with the adoption of the Pink triangle, another important piece of LGBTQ history.<\/p>\n Though initially used as a way of singling out LGBTQ members of the military in as far back as WWII, the Pink triangle is now more associated with empowerment. The shoes themselves take these schemes on beautifully, adopting aspects such as Air bubbles that are dipped in spectrum hues.<\/p>\n
