The upcoming Sega x Puma RS-0 marks yet another addition to this footwear trend.

The imaginative character design of Sega comes together with Puma via a legendary name. Sonic the Hedgehog, a beloved character who hardly needs an introduction, runs head-on into a Puma classic.

The age-old German footwear brand must’ve had a hard time figuring out which piece of its impressive catalog would act as this collab’s focus. But, at the end of the day, it’s safe to say they’ve made a great choice.

At the heart of this release is the most recent piece of Puma retro revival, the RS-0. This shoe represents some of the most innovative pieces of the brand’s history.

Puma and its pioneering Running System (RS):

For years, Puma went toe-to-toe with other major names in the category of elite performance footwear. Of course, this was before Nike and adidas took up all of the room.

Nonetheless, Puma maintained a position of relevance at one point, led by innovations such as the RS – or Running System – line. The RS line was also the platform upon which Puma would launch into computer-connected footwear. Here, it’s bringing a Sega mainstay back to life.

Two versions of this legendary shoe appear in this release, a Sonic themed mock-up and one representing his rival Dr. Eggman.

The former comes in a Blue overall upper that sports a furry texture, a shoutout to the world’s most famous hedgehog. We even see a shoutout to the game’s Green Hill Zone via the heel counter.

The Eggman edition is emblazoned in a glossy Red leather, bordered by Caution Tape graphics from the midfoot to the heel counter. While a Blue outsole finishes off the Eggman scheme, the Blue colorway sees a contrasting Red sole.

While brands like Vans have made a reputation out of bringing back some cartoon classics from the good old days, these are a bit different. For one, the execution here is a bit more glorifying.

There isn’t a Sonic the Hedgehog overall print. Instead, we see some honest pieces of footwear design that imply the cartoon connection – plus some inner graphic placements.

Sega x Puma: Back to our childhood Taking childhood memories and slapping them on some sneakers is starting to look like a really viable strategy for sneaker releases.
