This time, the California-esque Vans team up with Nickelodeon to celebrate another, more modern childhood classic: SpongeBob Squarepants. The delightful cartoon character and his many friends make for some of the most expressive and visually striking colorways we’ve seen on Vans models.

The folks over at Vans have been reaching into our collective childhoods for quite some time now. We’ve all seen some of the brand’s previous work with the Peanuts series, resulting in some surprisingly well-executed iterations of Vans classics. Now, they’re at it once more.

The collaboration centers on three models, the Sk-8 Hi, the Slip-on, and the Authentic. This is a special release from Vans, being that it’s put together by their Vault segment. Vault by Vans is the selective section of the brand that puts premium touches on some of the company’s special releases.

Though each sneaker in this collection gets two colorways – totaling six different shoes – there are individual interesting details. The Authentic might be the most creative one, boasting a splattered Plankton graphic on the shoe’s outsole. Whether you see him as a misunderstood microorganism or a villain, a splattered Plankton on your outsole is just good fun.

Thanks to the good folks over at Vans, this special Vault release also combines classic touches with some premium materials. Those recognizable canvas uppers come with overlays such as suede and leather.

Six shoes are plenty to choose from, but there’s even more! This collaborative release also comes with some apparel and skate decks. The t-shirts are particularly interesting, sporting both Spongebob and Patrick, with some of that signature Vans flair. We kind of like Patrick in sunglasses. Not a bad look.

There’s really nothing negative to say about this blast from a whimsical past. To a lot of us, there might not be a more appropriate way to incorporate Spongebob into the sneaker world. It also helps that the decks and t-shirts are pretty dope. The wild nostalgia alone is reason enough to cop a piece of this release.

Available now, you’ll want to make sure you don’t sleep on these gems!

Vans x SpongeBob The Vans x SpongeBob collection is here.
