Essentially, elderly people were discovering the comfort of Maertens and Funk shoes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Dr. Martens has English origins<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Since 1901, the Griggs family has been producing work boots and footwear at their factory in Wollaston, Northamptonshire. In 1959, Bill Griggs discovered Maertens and Funk cushioned soles and thought they would be an excellent complement to his footwear. This is how it got its name. Not every release makes it easy to remember the date. Priced at two pounds, it was a working-class product. Dr. Martens, like many other elements of <strong>workwear<\/strong>, began as a functional and blue-collar item before becoming a social and cultural icon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Pete Townshend and Dr. Martens<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>During the <strong>1960s<\/strong>, <strong>Dr. Martens&#8217; social influence<\/strong> swept through various subcultures, but it was the guitarist of <strong>The Who<\/strong> who brought them to the stage.<strong> Pete Townshend<\/strong> was tired of wearing clothes that prevented him from playing the guitar and chose workwear and Dr Martens boots. Townshend&#8217;s 1460s became a symbol of self-expression, and he thanked his footwear for allowing him to perform new moves on stage.
