This Footscape’s western design<\/strong> conceals references to its history as a model associated with the birth of a Hiroshi Fujiwara-created trend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Advanced Project Engineering (APE) division of Nike worked on designs that would adapt to the anatomy of the foot in the 1990s<\/strong>, which is when the Footscape’s lines were first developed. They discovered through their research that lateral lacing improved blood return and decreased stress in particular areas. The Nike Footscape did not have much of an impact on runners, but Japan, which was always open to new ideas, loved it for its peculiar shapes. Hiroshi Fujiwara<\/strong>, the father of streetwear, was one of the early adopters.<\/p>\n\n\n

Nike’s risky plan to develop a line that combined their concepts of function and style was presented to Hiroshi Fujiwara,<\/strong> Tinker Hatfield, and Mark Parker in 2002<\/strong>. The project, which had no set start or end date, was known as HTM, and from it came models that were only fully appreciated a few years later, such as Sock Mid, which was inspired by the ACG Sock, the Sock Dart that later became a commercial success, Zoom Macropus, which foresaw the wallabe trend, and Footscape Woven, which combined the asymmetrical lines of Footscape and Woven, an interwoven fabric with Native American influences.<\/p>\n\n\n

In its original incarnation in 1996, the Footscape had positioned itself as an inspirational element for performance models (Shake Ndestrukt in basketball, T90 in football). The Footscape Woven was repositioned among the limited editions that were then starting to gain popularity. Reinterpretations using new materials and technologies, World Cup-themed limited editions, and partnerships with Fragment, Clot, Bodega, and The Hideout<\/strong>\u2014the iconic London store that defied convention by using a furry finish.<\/p>\n\n\n

Since then, the Nike Footscape Woven has retained an almost mythological feel, as a trend only accepted and understood in Asia<\/strong>, with limited editions available to the rest of the world. With risk accepted as a premise, the Footscape has used unusual prints for many of its versions, including Gingham, Wool, and animal prints such as Pony, Leopard, and Zebra.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
