Converse Weapon, since 1986<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The creation of The Weapon coincided with a period of unease for Converse, the longtime symbol of American basketball, which had been under attack from upstart companies in the 1970s. These companies had revolutionised not only the product but also its presentation in the 1980s<\/strong>, putting players front and centre in advertising campaigns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Converse had some of the best NBA players on its roster, and when it came to choosing who to counterattack with, it was clear: it would go with everyone, after all, it was the most represented brand in the All Star. Many of the top players at the time collaborated on its campaigns. Additionally, their influence extended to the sport itself, as only exceptional sneakers can. The recording of a Weapon commercial marked the beginning of a new chapter in the legendary rivalry between Magic Johnson and Larry Bird. After being complete opposites in both life and play since college, Magic and Bird found they had a lot in common for the first time. Much more than the Converse Weapon<\/strong> itself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Converse Weapon, technology and style<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The first impact of the Weapon was the color, associated with each of its teams, first in the NBA and later in college competition, where North Carolina, Michigan State, LSU or Tennessee had Weapons in their own colors. But behind the color you could find much more. It was one of the first models developed in the Converse Biomechanics Lab<\/strong>, a research team created by the brand to advance new technologies, pioneering a scientific approach to sneaker design. The Converse Weapon evolved from one of the creations of the Converse Biomechanics Lab, the Y-Bar. A Y-shaped piece that encircled the ankle and also appeared on later models. In addition, EVA midsole and natural rubber on the outsole placed the Converse Weapon at the forefront of athletic footwear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
