On June 11th, FOOTDISTRICT and Nike ACG, in collaboration with OCEAN52 and with the participation of ESDi, hosted the fourth edition of TERRA PROJECT.

Held at the inspiring venue Segundo Espacio, the event offered a deep dive into a new way of connecting with nature—an essential step toward understanding and protecting it. From the very beginning, the atmosphere was charged with vibrant energy—a mix of curiosity and passion that brought together people from a wide range of fields. Design enthusiasts, sustainability professionals, artists, and inquisitive minds came together to rethink the world around us.

TERRA PROJECT is an initiative that, across its first three editions, has taken us to diverse natural settings—from towering mountains to the depths of the ocean. It has served as a constant call to explore and protect nature, to traverse its landscapes and discover spaces that inspire transformation. This fourth edition, concentrated into a single day, took place at Segundo Espacio—a venue designed by FOOTDISTRICT specifically to cultivate ideas and connect communities.

It was a day full of energy and sensations—a space to pause, observe, and question. One key question floated in the air: what does it mean to create with awareness in a constantly evolving world? The talks and workshops became dynamic forums where urgent ideas intertwined, and individual voices found resonance within the collective. The event encouraged us to open new paths for relating to our environment—to imagine new ways of dressing, producing, and caring. It was, without a doubt, a day to sow possibilities and to witness the seamless interplay of theory and practice.

Awakening Consciousness and Creativity

The day was shaped by activities that stimulated both the mind and the hands. Eme Rock, educator and co-founder of Makeo.top, led us through “Cripsis Textil”, a captivating talk that explored the tensions between fashion and sustainability. From the impact of synthetic fabrics to the challenges of recycling, Eme guided us through the life cycle of materials, opening our eyes to new ideas of transformation. His perspective on camouflage as an evolutionary strategy—one that has influenced textiles from World War I to contemporary fashion—was fascinating, showing how patterns originally designed to conceal now urge us to reveal deeper environmental awareness. The audience’s participation, through questions and reflections, greatly enriched the discussion.

Hands-On: Workshops That Connect

Creativity bloomed during the workshops. The “Azul Marino WORKSHOP”, led by artist Nicasio Torres, combined his perspective as both engineer and artist. Nicasio challenged us to transform white garments into camouflage uniforms inspired by the marine environment. After analyzing the colors, textures, and forms of the surrounding landscape, we created new patterns that engaged in dialogue with nature. The goal wasn’t to hide, but to integrate—seeking visual harmony with the ocean. It was a tangible way to translate what we had learned about sustainability and aesthetic perception into fabric. The energy in the room was contagious, with every participant immersed in their creation.

Finally, Lourdes Rosés introduced us to the fascinating “Gyotaku WORKSHOP”. With her deep connection to the creative process, Lourdes guided us through this Japanese art technique rooted in the traditions of Japanese fishermen. The direct imprint of the fish’s body on paper, using non-toxic inks, became a unique artwork that blended gesture, memory, and nature. Seeing participants fully absorbed in exploring this ancestral technique was yet another testament to the joy and active engagement that defined TERRA PROJECT.

It was a day of connection, and we left with the sense that something new had been planted—in both our minds and our hearts—ready to shape the future.

FOOTDISTRICT and NIKE ACG, together with OCEAN52, present the fourth season of TERRA PROJECT, an initiative that proposes a new way of relating to nature through understanding —an essential step toward protecting it.

This edition unfolds as an intense and sensory journey: a day to pause, observe, and rethink. To ask ourselves what it means to create with awareness in a world that is constantly transforming. Talks and workshops become living spaces where urgent questions intersect, and the individual finds meaning through the collective. From the most technical to the most intuitive, this gathering invites us to explore new ways of relating to our surroundings —to imagine other ways of dressing, producing, and caring. A day to plant possibilities.

Activities

Segundo Espacio will host the activities on June 11, becoming the ideal setting to explore recycling from multiple angles. A space where theory and practice intertwine through different disciplines to rethink materials, processes, and their impact on our environment.

Textile Crypsis

An introduction to the tensions between fashion and sustainability through two key questions: What impact do synthetic fabrics have? What can we do about it?

Eme Rock’s talk will address the lifecycle of materials, the challenges of recycling, and new ideas for transformation. It will also offer a look at camouflage — crypsis as an evolutionary strategy that has inspired textiles since World War I. Patterns that once served to conceal now reveal, in a context of environmental awareness.

Navy Blue WORKSHOP

A creative action led by artist Nicasio Torres, where we will transform white garments into camouflage uniforms inspired by the marine environment.

After analyzing the colors, textures, and forms of the surrounding landscape, we will design new patterns that engage in dialogue with nature. The goal is not to hide but to integrate — to seek visual harmony with the ocean and its shore. A way to translate into fabric what we’ve learned about sustainability, perception, and aesthetic language.

Gyotaku WORKSHOP

Lourdes Rosés introduces us to Gyotaku, a traditional Japanese artistic technique born among nets and tides. Originally used by fishermen to record their best catches, this practice has evolved into a way to capture the form and soul of a fish on paper using non-toxic inks and flexible sheets. The direct imprint of the fish’s body becomes a unique work of art, blending gesture, memory, and nature.

Casting

Nicasio Torres, Eme Rock, and Lourdes Rosés participate in the fourth season of Terra Project for their ways of creating with respect for the past and commitment to the future. Three visions that connect art, design, and sustainability as tools for imagining new possible futures.

Nicasio Torres

Born in Las Palmas and based in Barcelona, Nicasio Torres blends engineering and fine arts in a pictorial work that is pure intuition. Illustrator, teacher, and artist, his work explores the balance between form and energy, through a vibrant visual language that breaks boundaries and seeks new forms of beauty. These ideas will be developed in a workshop where participants apply his techniques to create uniforms that seek harmony with the marine environment.

Eme Rock

Designer, design professor, and co-founder of Makeo.top, a second-hand fashion platform created as a critical response to the established consumer system. Drawing from his experience in the fashion industry, Eme promotes a vision rooted in reuse, conscious consumption, and resistance to the commodification of what we understand as fair fashion.

Lourdes Rosés

A painter trained at the Llotja School in Barcelona, Lourdes Rosés creates her work from a deep connection with the creative process. Her career spans watercolor to ceramics, with special attention to concept as the driving force behind each project. Her work is defined by constant experimentation and a near-ritual dedication to painting.

Why is there an Oceans Day? is a question that is asked each time June 8 rolls around.

The oceans are essential for all life on Earth, not just ours. The seas and oceans are responsible for 80 percent of all life on Earth. Essentially, the survival and sustainability of various species and ecosystems are heavily reliant on the oceans.

However, it appears that we are not treating them well: microplastics have already been discovered in the Mariana Trench (the world’s deepest point).

A sick ocean represents a sick world.

The ocean, the water, is more than just a resource; it is also not “our heritage” or “our legacy” (does it belong to us?) The ocean is where we coexist and exist. That is why it is critical for us to guard, protect, and monitor its conservation.

So cute, but what about the garbage?

There is a famous large garbage island in the Pacific Ocean that is three times the size of France… but it is not the only one: it has already been noted that the phenomenon extends all over the world, with garbage islands in the Atlantic and Indian Oceans, as well as off the coasts of Antarctica, the Sea of Japan, and the Mediterranean.

Every year, 126 tons of waste are dumped into Spanish seas.

Fashion, of course, has a significant negative impact on the oceans due to a variety of factors including production, consumption, and waste generated by the industry. The fact is that waste from the fashion industry finds its way into marine environments. That is why we must accept responsibility and work to prevent this from happening again.

The truth is that we are frequently unaware of the environmental impact of our clothing and footwear choices. The amount of waste produced by the fashion industry that ends up in the ocean, as well as the type of waste, are two of the most urgent issues.

At FOOTDISTRICT, we organize to raise awareness, educate ourselves, and gather waste from the environment. On the one hand, we try to avoid generating waste and improve all our processes. On the other hand, we train ourselves and take part in clean-up campaigns.

There are many different types of materials in the ocean, but non-biodegradable plastics and microplastics are the most concerning. When discussing trash in the ocean, it is critical to understand a few key terms. We have created a brief glossary of footwear and fashion material typology.

A glossary of environmental material terms

Biodegradable materials are those that, in the right environmental circumstances, can naturally decompose through biological processes like the action of microorganisms. They break down into simpler parts during this process of decomposition, leaving no harmful residues for the environment. Organic cotton, which is grown without harmful pesticides and dyes, is an example of a biodegradable material used in fashion.

Synthetic materials decompose more slowly and could release microplastics as they do so. Such as polyester or plastics.

Materials that are recyclable can go through a recycling process in which they are gathered, sorted, and used as building blocks for new products. The products must be recyclable in order to avoid having to discard them. Recycling PET allows for the creation of recycled polyester fibers, which are then used to make clothing.

Instead of using raw materials, recycled materials are created by processing recyclables that have already been used. The best material is recycled and recyclable.

Oxo-degradable plastics are plastics, such as some bags, that contain additives that speed up their physical decomposition in the presence of oxygen and sunlight. Okay, so it’s a word, but it’s starting to become popular. Although they initially seem harmless, these plastics eventually break down into smaller pieces to form microplastics. Note that due to environmental factors, this fragmentation happens more slowly in the marine environment, and plastic objects can persist as marine debris for up to five years.

Small plastic particles known as microplastics and nanoplastics typically have a diameter of less than 5 mm for microplastics and even smaller for the latter. When used and washed, clothing and accessories release these plastics, which end up in the environment, the oceans, and animals.

Still, a lot of fashion items, like sneakers, are made of materials that aren’t biodegradable or recyclable, take a while to break down, and produce tiny plastic particles called microplastics that endanger fish and other wildlife. However, there are brands that are pursuing sustainability in the right way as well. These companies have innovation processes, are conscious of the effects of fabrics, constantly experiment with new materials, and manufacture clothing and footwear in sustainable ways. Sustainability is a journey and a constant work in progress.

Alliances and movements to reduce litter and safeguard the environment

In this context, the TERRA PROJECT project plays a fundamental role. For several years, we have been developing this initiative with Nike ACG, where we meet organizations that are involved with the environment, as we do at FOOTDISTRICT. The most important thing is to get out there and enjoy nature while also raising awareness and working together.

Movement is our way of connecting with nature.

FOOTDISTRICT is always learning and catching up. As consumers, we all have an important role to play in this process. Looking at labels and choosing brands that prioritize sustainability and environmental stewardship is a step toward changing the way we shop. Furthermore, we can reduce our consumption of single-use plastics by adopting practices such as proper recycling of our sneakers, clothing, footwear, and fashion products.

In short, why do we celebrate Ocean Day? Well, because it reminds us that we must take action to protect our environment, especially when it comes to fashion-generated trash that ends up in our oceans. We don’t want a sustainable future, we want a better future.

We say “sustainability” out loud and, almost immediately, recycling or caring for the environment comes to mind. However, sustainability has many faces and many paths and at FOOTDISTRICT we are going through all of them to improve day by day together with the brands present in our catalog.

Durability x FOOTDISTRICT: our day-to-day

One of the paths to sustainability is durability. When we started, back in 2012, one of the ideas we were clear about was how to select the garments and footwear: we wanted them to fall in love with us for a long time.

A durable garment can maintain its shape, color and quality over time, so it will be more attractive and useful to you. Or isn’t it wonderful to be able to take the same sneakers out of their box over and over again and that they are impeccable?

We keep feeling those butterflies… and that’s what we want you to feel. So, we have something to tell you: choosing garments and materials that last makes you more sustainable.

Durability meets fashion: the ultimate collab

Durability in clothing allows the garment to have a longer useful life. This has two main benefits for you and the environment. You can save money and time.

The environmental impact of a garment can be reduced in different ways, for example, when it is properly maintained and when it is given the necessary care. This is the sign you were waiting for to learn how to wash that sweatshirt or properly clean the suede of your sneakers.

Also, choosing durable clothing prevents frequent replacements. It is one thing to collect and another to have to get rid of that shoe you bought because it was what you had to wear, and you only wore it once.

We don’t want that.

Kanye West at the 2019 Met Gala wearing a Dickies jacket. Source: Vogue

Repair, don’t spare

Nothing is thrown away: it is repaired. Careful and professional repair can even improve the quality and original appearance of the garment.

Getting a tear in a Gore-Tex jacket is not ideal, although it sometimes happens. You have to take care of it, but in good hands a repaired jacket will not lose its impermeability. What’s more, it can even increase the useful life of the clothing by strengthening weak parts (where the fabric tends to rub the most) and extending its useful life.

If you love what you purchased, you want it to be in perfect condition, and to enjoy it as long as possible, so if you find a defect, you may consider taking it to repair.

Assemble! Durability in materials

Maybe you already knew: at FOOTDISTRICT we have a wide selection of products made of resistant materials, because just as we believe in a lasting relationship with our community, we also believe in lasting relationships with everything in our wardrobe.

All tops, sneakers and jackets that you will see in our collection are selected for their quality materials and for betting on a specially designed manufacturing so that each piece is as durable as possible.

You’ll see a Tough Material icon in the tooltip, and we’ll add more information about the materials to inform their characteristics. When the materials are durable, fewer resources are used for their manufacture: energy and water consumption is reduced, for example. In addition, less waste is generated, because the processes are highly designed to use the necessary materials.

And we are not only talking about physical durability, economic and visual durability are also important. Come on, you can invest in higher quality garments that you will be able to enjoy for a longer time and that will be like the first day when they reach vintage age.

Durability feat. YOU

You have the first and the last word. You are the one who decides what clothes she stays with and how long. But since you’ve fallen in love with that sneaker, let it stay with you for as long as possible. We don’t want to get too sentimental, but we know that emotional connection that comes with specific garments.

Durable garments help preserve emotional ties, built on the memories associated with them or because they have sentimental meaning.

Think about it: take into account the durability of the garment when you go to buy it, it already extends its life automatically.

Our recommendations:

Choose modifiable or multifunctional pieces, like this Nike x Travis Scott NRG Gore-Tex parka that has a detachable collar

Look for strong materials, such as recycled polyester or Cordura (an ultra-strong nylon material).

Invest in basics and classics that you know will not fail your personal style, such as Carhartt WIP garments

When you buy with your heart, do it with your head and look for durability on the drops section.

And take care of your clothes and your shoes with suitable products, they go with you every day!

Except for the very passionate or those who make a living from it, the bulk of ordinary mortals are oblivious to the raw materials and manufacturing methods of their favorite garments. No one cares much if those jeans are ‘selvedge’ or that shirt is made of Egyptian cotton. With perhaps one caveat: Gore-Tex.

This technology, discovered by pure chance and which has made its mark in the Arctic or in space, has gone from being a mere membrane that guarantees waterproofing and offers breathability to being a brand in its own right. But what is it about Gore-Tex that makes it the object of desire of graffiti writers and designers for their catwalks? Let’s take a look.

From basement to space: the birth of Gore-Tex

The history of Gore-Tex is well known. Bob Gore spread the good things about polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) from the basement of his house. He found out that this material grew very quickly when it was heated, up to ten times its original size. This led to the discovery of expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE), which would eventually become what we know today as Gore-Tex. The key to this innovation was based on the breathability it provided. The pore size of ePTFE was smaller than that of a water molecule, so water vapor could pass through it without getting stuck in the material.

Gore-Tex as we know it today went through several iterations and development processes over the decades. For example, in successive versions, a solution was found to one of the main initial problems: when dirt or soapy products became embedded in the pores of the polytetrafluoroethylene. Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, the use of Gore-Tex would move into the Textile industry (initially in jackets and, then, footwear), also developing its range of technical solutions and giving rise to the appearance of new technological iterations. Similarly, its use would be extended to industries such as aerospace and medical.

Japan and New York: outdoors, graffiti and rap

There are certainly two geographical points that are essential to understand the development of Gore-Tex. The first is Japan and the influence that the nihon country has had both in terms of fashion and in terms of the outdoors and the importance of the technical. We have to go back to the 1960s and 1970s, when illustrator Yasuhiko Kobayashi and editor Jirō Ishikawa travelled to the United States and discovered the Whole Earth Catalog, a countercultural fanzine that (in addition to serving as a precursor of certain trends such as the new age) served to make the catalog style the predominant one in Japanese magazines and to imbue these authors with new trends linked to outdoor life, technical sports and workwear fashion. Today, the technical component is quintessential to understanding Japanese fashion, with publications such as Go Out magazine making the point.

Cover of Whole Earth Catalogue.
The other geographical enclave takes us to New York. The birthplace of rap, hip-hop and the birthplace of graffiti. With Gore-Tex (actually, with outdoor brands in general) something similar happened with the development of the Lo-life trend. New York is an inhospitable city: because of its size, because of its extreme climate even for a big city (especially cold in winter and with a tendency to snow or rain) and because of the predominant lifestyle in the city. Graffiti writers (and the same could be said of other role models in rap, such as drug dealers) have always had a preference for expensive, technical brands such as The North Face and Arc’teryx, because of the nature of their activity and the component of their day-to-day lives. Functionally, to beat the elements on their missions (where Gore-Tex is helpful) and for the construction of such garments (for example, The North Face Nuptse would be ideal for hiding stolen paint cans inside). But also spiritually. Because wearing a technical garment from brands like these was a sign of status. If you wore Arc’teryx, it was because you had stolen it. Within the halo associated with rocking certain brands, if the garment contained Gore-Tex it meant that it was more expensive and, therefore, more coveted.

Portada de New York Magazine.
Hip-hop and rap, intrinsically linked to graffiti, have not been alien to this process. MCs, always wanting to take on trends and show street feeling in their lyrics, have helped Gore-Tex become more popular by introducing the term in their lyrics and rhymes. There are numerous cases we could cite: Big L (“Me and O.C. be in the Lex’, Cartier specs, Nautica sweats, Gore-Tex, with Presidentials on, full of baguettes”), Nas (“Spinach and steak, GORE-Tex boot print still on his face. It’s still on his face when we visit his wake”), Action Bronson (“Just for that sizzle, Gore-Tex in case of drizzle”)… Outdoor and hip-hop have not stopped their love affair, be it Mobb Deep starring in a campaign for Helly Hansen, or simply through the boom in the 90s and beyond of garments such as the Steep Tech jackets or the aforementioned Nuptse by The North Face. Today, prominent names in the New York rap underground such as the RRR crew are avid collectors of technical clothing and Gore-Tex and loyal ambassadors for the material.

Gorpcore and high fashion

Of course, this is not the only cause and effect process, but an intrinsic interweaving of aesthetic and conceptual relationships. The work of brands such as Supreme in carrying out collaborations with all kinds of brands over the last two decades (we could almost draw a straight line here to the recent collaboration between TNF and Gucci); the existence of figures such as Kanye West or Pharrell have allowed, over the years, the barrier between high fashion, brands of a certain status and the street, as well as the aforementioned relationship with Japan, to become diluted, in a sort of mutual influence.

The presence of brands such as Marmot or the everlasting Patagonia, linked to other aesthetic currents such as the imaginary Silicon Valley, has been reinforcing this process in which Nordic fashion (where the presence of materials such as Gore-Tex is almost obligatory) has also had an impact. Of course, it is also obligatory to mention here the work of Nike and its AGC line, whose influence on a technical and aesthetic level has not ceased over the years, with some notable recent launches such as the Nike ACG Mountain Fly Low Gore-Tex SE (also in its black colorway), or the Nike ACG Mountain Fly Gore-Tex, which are in line with current design codes (and which also feature this two-tone color combination).

Names like Virgil Abloh are also essential to understand the aesthetic paradigm of recent years. Through his work at PYREX and Off-White, his creative work at Louis Vuitton, and his collaborations with Nike, the Chicago native has shown the benefits of outdoor clothing and the power of Gore-Tex. The end result of all this cocktail of names is the boom of the trend known as Gorpcore: a revival of technical, highly functional outdoor clothing that floods Instagram and almost all the headlines of the genre.

Season II of Terra Project comes to an end on a high note, a very high note!

In the last Outdoor Experience of the season, our team travelled to Àger, a small village in the foothills of the Serra del Montsec (Catalonia). There we moved to a beautiful limestone massif popular for its thermal summer winds, perfect for Paragliding.

Once there, Jordi, our guide from EntreNúvols Paragliding School, explained to us how this magical and, for many, addictive sport works. The trick is to surf the invisible waves that the air creates when it hits the cliffs and pushes upwards.

Experiencing the water cycle from a bird’s eye view

We learnt a lot about thermal currents, as well as experiencing them first-hand and seeing how the different birds that live in the area use them to move around. From the air, Jordi, Oriol, Ramón and the rest of the instructors pointed out the bearded vultures and choughs that passed by us. There, they explained to us that they used to observe the movements of the birds to identify the thermal currents and be able to use them as they do. An incredible way to feel at one with nature.

There is probably no better way to be part of the water cycle than riding on the wind with the tiny particles that will later become the clouds that will later pour as rain on lakes and rivers to start this wonderful cycle all over again.

Enjoying, learning… and contributing

Before leaving, we stopped at the nearby Terradets reservoir to clean up the car park next to the famous climbing walls of Les Bagasses. There, a good pile of papers, wipes, plastic bottles and even a fork were the -unfortunate- protagonists of the afternoon.

Flying was an incredible sensation and, for sure, the best way to say goodbye to this beautiful season. Four Outdoor Experiences in which we have learned many interesting things, as well as getting closer to Mother Nature than ever before.

Go to www.terra-project.footdistrict.com/en/home and soak up in depth what this Phase II of Terra Project has been like. And get ready, because next year we will be waiting for you with much more.

In our tireless journey following the Water Cycle, last May 21st a team formed by FOOTDISTRICT, Nike ACG and Ocean52 together with the people selected to participate in the third Outdoor Experience of Terra Project, traveled to the famous Mediterranean coasts of the Costa Brava to experience the interface of land and sea in a totally different way: a very special via ferrata. Nestled in the headlands near Sant Feliu de Guíxols is the Via Ferrata de la Cala del Molí, the only Via Ferrata over the sea in Europe.

Our team of guides, led by Marc, took us on a wonderful and exhausting trip along the cliffs, where yellow-legged gulls were raising their spring chicks and thick fog watered the overhanging pines.

May is known for its mild spring temperatures, but an extraordinary heat wave arrived and met the cooler sea water, creating a thick layer of fog. A beautiful reminder of both the cardinal water cycle and the terrible threat of global warming.

KNOWING YOUR SURROUNDINGS IS LOVING THEM

Jacques Cousteau used to say that people can only protect what they love, and to love something you have to know it well. That’s why the group got to know the pristine ecosystem of the coastal cliffs first hand, and decided to give back to it in gratitude for the experience by picking up trash along the way back from Cala del Molí.

Because this is the true mission of Terra Project: to bring people closer to nature, to make them fall in love with it and to inspire them in the need to protect our planet.

AN ALLIANCE FOR THE PLANET

Terra Project is a joint project of FOOTDISTRICT with Nike ACG and Ocean52 – the only beverage that allocates 52% of its profits to the care of the oceans – that seeks to encourage people to establish closer and real connections with nature. And we do this through unique outdoor sport experiences, with special emphasis on the care and protection of our environment.

Besides, apart from the proposed Outdoor Activities, you can always sign up to clean the Barcelona coastline while kayaking or paddle surfing.

Disconnect from what keeps you away. Connect with what keeps you alive. It may sound simple, but in a world over-saturated with superfluous stimuli, it is not so simple. Terra Project was born from this need to reconnect with what really matters: as a way of teaching us to relate to our environment in a different, more respectful way. And all this through outdoor sports and direct interaction with nature.

After the almost 230 kg of waste collected in the first phase, this second phase is on track to break the record. The 24.77 kg of waste, including plastics, paper and even a small engine and a car bumper, collected in just 25 minutes in the vicinity of the Arroyo de la Fuensanta in the first activity of the second phase shows us that there is still a lot to do.

Skiing and snowboarding in Grau Roig

For the next activity of the second phase of Terra Project, on 26 March we went to the top of the water cycle: to the mountains, where the air and water molecules are purer and less polluted. Departing from Barcelona, the FOOTDISTRICT and Nike ACG team, in collaboration with Ocean 52, travelled to the Grau Roig resort in Andorra to enjoy a day in the snow.

To better understand the water cycle, we met with Mathieu Crépel, two-time Olympian and Snowboard World Champion. The French snowboarder is a committed environmentalist, as evidenced by his activity with the NGO Water Family, and served as a guide to understand how water is transformed in the mountains, from the ice-filled north-facing slopes to the spring water we have at lunchtime.

Of course, the group did the now classic clean-up session at the resort car park and nearby stream: almost 14.31 kg of waste collected on this occasion, which will no longer pollute the unique environment of the Grau Roig resort.

Permanent activities

While the next two activities of this Phase II arrive, we encourage you to visit the permanent Terra Project booth at Platja de Sant Sebastià and take part in the guided paddle surfing and kayaking activities.

Make your reservation by writing to info@obrintvia.cat, indicating your details, how many people will participate in the activity and the date of your choice or by calling 647 408 777 on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 17:00 to 19:00.

The booth is open from Tuesday to Friday from 17:30 to 19:30 and on weekends from 9:00 to 11:00 if you would like to come and meet the team and make your booking in person.

Remember: all Terra Project activities are 100% free of charge.

The first activity of the second phase of Terra Project, the sustainable project by FOOTDISTRICT and Nike ACG in collaboration with Ocean52, took place on Saturday, February 5th. A day

The first activity of the second phase of Terra Project, the sustainable project by FOOTDISTRICT and Nike ACG in collaboration with Ocean52, took place on Saturday, February 5th. A day of Nordic walking in Madrid’s Sierra Norte in which both organisation and participants were able to enjoy and take care of the environment while learning first-hand about the importance of the water cycle.

Change of plans with the same result

Initially planned as an ascent on snowshoes following the bed of the Lozoya River, the absence of snow changed the equipment, but not the objective: to learn more about the water cycle around the Pinilla reserve, in the Sierra de Guadarrama National Park. And we did it with the only help of walking poles and our desire to do our part for the conservation and care of our ecosystems.

So, after a brief breakfast at the Ciclo Lodge mountain hotel, the participants set off for the Puerto de Navafría, on the border between the Community of Madrid and Castilla y León. Accompanied by the extreme sportsman and adventurer Antonio de la Rosa, a circular route began and ended at the Puerto de Navafría, passing by places such as the Mirador del Nevero or the Mirador Peña del Cuervo, always with a spectacular view of the Sierra de Guadarrama and the Lozoya Valley.

The water cycle, live

The marked absence of snow, which is unusual at this time of year, gives us an idea of the reality of climate change and its impact on our planet’s ecosystems. For this reason, and despite finding snow in some small mountain areas, the thaw made it possible for us to observe the course of small streams that joined the water cycle.

After a day in which the general tone was finding a path fairly clean of waste, and after a pleasant lunch, we began the cleaning and conservation tasks in the surroundings of the Arroyo de la Fuensanta, where things changed, and in just 25 minutes a total of 24.77 kg of waste was collected, including plastics, paper and even a small engine and a car bumper.

Terra Project: the planet does not rest

With the launch of this second phase of Terra Project, FOOTDISTRICT and Nike ACG, in collaboration with Ocean52 (remember: the only beverage company that allocates 52% of its profits to ocean conservation), want to deepen the need to take a step forward and be an active part in the knowledge and care of the planet through outdoor sports. Only through a process of deep connection with nature will we be able to understand the need to be more sustainable and respectful of what surrounds us.

The Outdoor Experience ‘Wild kayak tour’ was launched in a totally different environment from the urban beach of Barceloneta where we developed other activities. This time, we went to the extreme North of Costa Brava to spend a very special day at sea. Llançà is a beautiful coastal town 15km south of the French border, where the Pyrenees meets the Mediterranean and the coast is truly wild.

There, the professional kayaker and ocean52 ambassador Rai Puig was waiting for the whole group to take us on a 10km kayak trip to the North and show us the beauty of the coast. All this adventure after an impressive master class in rowing technique so that we are fully prepared.

The sun, gentle winds, and a calm sea were the perfect companions for an amazing coastal geology excursion. On our way, we passed through faults and cliffs with layers of rock that hid small magical coves with crystal clear waters.

Halfway, we stopped to give a stroll through the hills behind the port of Cala de San Joan. There, we took the opportunity to collect waste. In total, we found 3,7 kg of trash, again mostly single-use plastics, fishing nets, and masks.

There is still a lot of work to do, a lot of oceans to clean, and a lot of landscapes to explore. But it is really encouraging to see some pristine nature not so far from the main cities. We continue working for our planet.
